This is not in any way an impartial view of the bands that fronted for Slapshock. In fact, I am the most biased person to write about it. Why is that? I am the bespectacled bassist of Four Days Ahead and one of the forerunners of Aftershock Bands Collective, the group of bands pushing for recognition of Pinoy Indie Bands here in Singapore. So you would agree with me. Now, let me tell you about the six Pinoy bands that gave the “rockest” night of nights last 28 June 2014 at Neverland II, St James Power Station.
AND THE BANDS PLAYED ON
PRESS PLAY – “Play what you want! Party all you want!”
by Law Diche
After two consecutive themed gigs, Aftershock decided it’s time to have a breather and just let the bands play whatever tickles their fancy. And so, PRESS PLAY was born. Carrying the tagline “Play what you want! Party all you want!”, the resulting chaos turned out into some sort of showdown between metal madness and 90s sweet dreams… and then some. It was a blast nonetheless, kicking off with a searing performance by metal artists EOTS.

Aftershock Guitar Clinic 1.0 by Ily Mark
After the success of Drum Workshop: Basics and Beyond by Junjun Cortez and Bass Clinic: Groove and Guitar Workshop, Aftershock Bands Collective has taken another step in reaching the other side of the musicians’ core, the guitarists. The group conducted a guitar clinic last April 12, 2014 for the 6 string enthusiasts of all levels who are interested in broadening their horizons of the fretboard. The session was held within the confines of LCube Studio, a perfect fit for 10 – 15 people with enough extra space to fit a band.

No fool is gonna play an April fool prank on this side if you don’t wanna mess with the 1st featured band of ABC, UlingGang (UG). Combination of masterfully intense heavy riffs and collective rhythm to propulsive beats fronted with hauntingly striking voice and enraged rap as a whole it is an effortlessly bound of UG’s trademark.

2014 has barely made its presence felt to anyone but guess what: Aftershock has already concluded 2 events at the start of this year namely the Team Building and Drum Clinic events. But Aftershock will not really be “Aftershock” if there will be no gig, isn’t it? So what better way to start the gigs of 2014 but to look back and pay our respects to the era where most of us Aftershockers grew up in – the 90’s!!! Continue reading
